Most cases of early prostate cancer cause no symptoms. Routine tests usually
lead to detection. As the disease progresses, the tumor gets larger and may put
pressure on surrounding organs. This can result in symptoms such as:
| • |
Difficulty starting or holding back urine |
| • |
Need to urinate frequently, especially at night |
| • |
Inability to urinate |
| • |
Weak or interrupted urine flow |
| • |
Pain or burning during urination |
| • |
Painful ejaculation |
| • |
Blood in the urine or semen |
| • |
Impotence |
| • |
Frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips or upper thighs |
An infection or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) - which is the abnormal
growth of benign prostate cells - also may cause these symptoms.
